Exhibition at Shandy Hall

The Emblem of My Work will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the marbled page (page 169) in Volume III of Laurence Sterne's novel Tristram Shandy and as an exhibition it will be largely put together by chance.
Helen Whittaker is one of a group of contemporary artists contributing to the exhibition at Shandy Hall in Coxwold.
Fine Cell
Wall-hanging working with prisoners

Helen is working in collaboration with Fine Cell and prisoners to produce an embroidered wall-hanging entitled Views from the Thames (1.35 x 6.5m) for The Glaziers' Hall in London.
Royal Mail Postage Stamps Presentation Pack, Christmas 2009
Maev Kennedy provided a history of stained glass in the presentation pack of 2009 Christmas stamps (price £5.10 from the Royal Mail). Helen Whittaker is cited as a significant contemporary artist working in stained glass with reference to the restoration of St. Ethelburga's Centre for Reconciliation and Peace.
Archbishop of York dedicates window
21st March 2009
The Archbishop performed the dedication of a stained glass window and two copper sculptures designed by Helen Whittaker for St. Mary's Church in Sheffield.
The Most Reverend and Right Honourable Dr John Sentamu noted the path of pilgrimage from one sculpture to the other, through the abstract and contemporary design of the stained glass window.
Bramley Apple window installed at Southwell Minster

Helen Whittaker's secular masterpiece to commemorate The Royal Air Force has gained recognition in The Telegraph. Helen explains her design principles for the window which depicts the RAF over 90 years: "I took as my starting point the motto per ardua ad astra, but in my window it is the moon which guides the airman safely home."
Media interest in Sheffield installation

There has been considerable media interest in the stained glass window designed by Helen Whittaker for St. Mary's Church, Sheffield. On 1st December The Guardian printed this story. Later in the week, TV crews from Yorkshire TV's Calendar and from BBC Look North came to film part of Barley Studio's installation work.
