ST. SAVIOUR’S CHURCH
Memorial Window with Copper Sculpture – North Chapel
(0.7m x 1.0m) 2010
The artwork celebrates Sheila Ferguson’s life, work and achievements within the Church, the Girl Guides, and Education. The fruits of Sheila Ferguson’s life and work are symbolised by an apple tree – the tree most often used in Christian iconography to depict the Tree of Knowledge – celebrating Sheila’s teaching career.
The tree has been created using a warm copper sculpture and glowing stained glass. Sheila’s work for the Girl Guides is placed at the heart of the design, represented by their symbol, which is woven within the sculpted copper branches of the tree. Sheila’s love for her family and friends radiates out from this motif as a warm glow of light illuminating a group of figures at the base of the window.
